An old school split 7” EP, this is something that always cheers me up! This particular piece of wax combines Human Corpse Abuse from the USA and Mortify, the Japanese answer (or homage) to Necrony and General Surgery. Brace yourself for a real Death/Grind-o-rama.
First up is Human Corpse Abuse, a Dark Descent Records recording artist whose debut album from 2022 (also released by Caligari Records, SelfMadeGod, Extremely Rotten Productions and Obliteration Records) wasn’t able to particularly impress me, but while their take on the Death/Grind fusion didn’t change that much, I like their effort on this split 7” EP a lot more. This duo, which also features Adam Jarvis (known for his work in Pig Destroyer, Hate Eternal, Misery Index, Lock Up and Nailbomb), definitely feels a bit fresher on these four new tracks. The band combines basically everything out of the whole Death Metal and Grindcore spectrum in something that feel comforting familiar – (extreme) music is hardly ever about originality. You’ll hear Necrony, Dead, General Surgery, Carcass as well as Nasum, Rotten Sound, Pig Destroyer and Regurgitate. It can be fast but also nice and chunky. Having revisited their ‘Xenoviscerum’-debut album and cranking out these four new songs a good number of times I think it is fair to say that we always come back to the same conclusion: this kind of music simply works best on EPs: short but deadly!
Their contribution to this split 7” EP is the second of Mortify’s releases this year, and just like the ‘Drowned In Muck’ 7” EP (released by Extremely Rotten Productions), this is a Gory Death Metal fan’s delight. Choppy, buzzsawing HM2 riffs with deliciously gurgling vocals in a surprisingly dynamic spectrum rhythms, it is clear that Mortify will never bring anything new or original to the table. Mortify is just all about the stomping, grooving, blasting sort of Death/Grind for folks who just never get enough of that old school stuff of Carcass, Exhumed, Necrony, Impetigo, General Surgery, County Medical Examiners, Impaled, Carnage, Regurgitate, Fleshcrawl, Dead Infection, Ghoul, Pharmacist, Mortician, Haemorrhage….
