Jehovah Lashing – Pulped Deity

Artist: Jehovah Lashing
Country: USA
Label: Headsplit Records
Formats: CD
Year: 2024

With only 18 minutes, Jehovah Lashing’s debut album from 2023 was a rather short affair. However with 16 tracks and plenty of sonic violence, there was a lot going on in that rather perfect sized album. With their second effort, the recently released ‘Pulped Deity’ the band took things even further into the extreme. This album is only 16 minutes long and counts no less than 21 tracks. With only four of those songs clocking in over one minute (and none above two) the musical frame is yet again more than clear: again the American duo is treating us to some relentless Death/Black/Grindcore pummelling.

Compared to the self-titled debut album, ‘Pulped Deity’ sound a bit more sharp, more venomous, more vicious. There’s less of the low-end rumblings, instead the band has a bit more of primitive Blasphemy-driven Black Metal edge to it. But other than that, nothing has changed. It is still the same sort of thunderous sonic terrorism that for the average earthling will be nothing but insanity.

And in all honesty and fairness, you can’t really blame them for that. It is basically one merciless barrage of drums, riffs and maniacal vocals. Yet, just when you think this is more or less a repetition of their debut album, you’ll stumble on a track like ‘Submit To The Void’ which has some melody and a spacey atmosphere. But while this in itself is nothing new, nor shocking, it fits so well within the musical framework of Jehovah Lashing that it goes by almost unnoticed.

‘Pulped Deity’ is a (little) piece of work that would suit anyone who ever wondered how it would sound if Sadistik Exekution did a jam session with Naked Whipper and Black Witchery.
