Kiloton – Swine Slice [EP]

Artist: Kiloton
Country: Canada
Label: Self-Released
Formats: Digital EP
Year: 2024

Before briefly calling it a day, the enigmatic Kiloton released this 20-minute EP, quickly followed by the project’s first and so far only full-length album. While Kiloton has proved not to be that easy to exactly pinpoint to one single musical description, mixing in elements of (Bestial) Black Metal, Noise, Ambient, Power Electronics, Doom, Drone and even some flairs of Death Metal, this time around things are a bit more simple. There’s clearly no question, this EP is full-steam homage to Ride For Revenge.

Nothing Kiloton has produced so far, in the rather short span of the first run of its existence, has been easy to swallow. It all required a trained ear or you could call it “acquired taste”. ‘Swine Slice’ pushes things further into the uncomfortable territories reserved for those bands dwelling within the Finnish borders and in the stables of the Bestial Burst label.

Exactly, reviewing this piece of nightmarish horror can be difficult, or it can be dead easy. The slightly more difficult way would be going through the total autopsy of this rotten and putrid cadaver and seeing that it is comprised of equally as much of depraved ‘Messe Des Morts’-style Beherit, the low-end rumblings of early Hail Conjurer and the mind-bending noise of Absolute Key. The easy way is just saying that this is stuff that, just like Ride For Revenge, is not stuff to be reviewed by mere words, but it should just be experienced.

While quite a bit different from the previous Kiloton offerings, it all shares the gnarly, grainy and overall unsettling nature. Almost as a law of nature, clearly, ‘Swine Slice’ is no exception. Anyone enamored with what Kiloton has dished so far, should surely dive into this one as well. Needless to say that this comes highly recommended for those into Ride For Revenge as well.
