After a digital demo and two rather low-profile split releases (of which one was also only released digitally), the USA-based Bestial Black/Death Metal band Lecherous published another digital demo at the very end of 2025. Admittedly, despite the fact that I consider myself reasonably well-versed in this scene, Lecherous had not yet appeared on my radar. It was Spotify, of all sources, that pointed out to me that this latest demo, released in December 2025, might be something for me. And, I hate to say it, but Spotify was definitely right in this case.
After a rather atmospheric Dark Ambient-like introduction, the band bursts into something that really lives up to their own claim to be “for fans of” Proclamation, Conqueror, Teitanblood, Black Witchery, Weregoat and Blasphemy. That means that Lecherous is taking no shame in blatantly copying the bands that inspired them to start this band as a whole. Who needs originality anyway?
In a constant barrage of rather staccato pummelling, the drums do take much of the lead in this second demo. Instead of the other way around, which is usually the case, it seems that the drums are building on the grinding guitars and have a prominent role in shaping the frame in which the music is flowing. The vocals are the cherry on the pie here, with a clear nod to the Proclamation way of barking, they push the band ever further into the Bestial Black/Death Metal swamp. But it is, again, the dynamic drumming, even when it is as primitive as anything (don’t expect any fashionable fills or fancy details), that prevents the demo from becoming too much of a chaotic affair. This is “controlled chaos”, as they say, but at least it all cumulates into a really solid and enjoyable demo that, without a doubt, is the band’s best effort so far.
No wonder then that this demo was quickly scooped up. It will be released on cassette tape at some point in the (near?) future by Sin For Belial Records. Connoisseurs should keep their eyes open for that one.
