These are the first recordings by this young band Maskim Xul, with a age of 17 this is one of the more promising young metal bands I lately heard. A nice mixture of melodic black- and deathmetal. The likes of Dimmu Borgir and other familiar bands pop-up in my mind quite regularly, but that’s no shame. The songs are nicely composed and played quite well. There is some point of critic too of course, the singer could do some more clean-singing lessons for the third – and last – track. But a thing I can’t forget to mention is the quite poor recording quality, but well, we’ll see through it. But, this makes my curiosity for good recording only stronger. A good quality recording and a descent mix would do this band a lot more good than what is audible on this rehearsal / demo-tape. Because the djembé of percussionist Julian isn’t audible at all for instance. But a nice first try for this band, and if you keep in mind that this was recorded live in the studio in just three hours, it is not bad at all. Lets see what the future brings…
Be sure to download the tracks from the band’s homepage! More information about the band can also be read in the interview I did some months ago, check it out.
