When listening to ‘Antipodean Evasion Tactics’, Primordial Intolerance’s debut demo tape, and knowing that they are from Quebec, Canada, it’s not unreasonable to think first of the circle of people associated with bands such as Gotthammer, Kiloton and Seraphic Castration. However, Primordial Intolerance is the result of two musicians who are independent of that scene, or at least have not played together in any of the many projects associated with Kiloton and the like. But K.S. and M.L. have indeed adopted the same raw and wild blend of Black/Death Metal for their new joint project.
The pair also play together in Black Market Fossil, but here they’re taking a different approach. This is rooted in the sonic onslaught that was once pioneered, some 35 years ago, by their compatriots Blasphemy. However, it is far less rooted in Death Metal and has a more vicious and sharper sound. This brings it much more aligned with the ever-growing number of ‘modern’ bands in this style. Fans of bands like Primitive Warfare and the like will certainly find this to their liking. Although by no means a carbon copy, Primordial Intolerance operates on the same principle: plugging every gap with roaring vocals, sawing riffs or the ever-pounding drums. As is often the case with this sort of music: it’s for the connoisseur. But if you’re one of them, you’ll certainly regard this as a real asset to the genre. It’s simple, but effective; it does exactly what you’d hope it would do if you’re looking for a new band in the Bestial Black/Death Metal genre.
