‘Transcendent Unveiling Of Dimensions’ is the first feat of the Kingsport, Tennessee, USA-based Death Metal that was founded back in 2018 by the duo of Alex Depew and Neal Williams. It took them until 2022 to expand their ranks with three more likeminded musicians that allowed them to take the band into the next level. This 4-track demo, clocking around the 18-minute mark, has been digitally released by the band at the very beginning of this year, but was quickly picked up by Pulverised Records for a release on 12” EP and CD as well as by Caligeri Records for a cassette tape version. Of course, the fact that these two labels were hot on their heels says something about the quality of Purulency…
And it is indeed quality that this five-piece is delivering. Yet, ‘Transcendent Unveiling Of Dimensions’ is not at all serving you with anything that you have not heard over 666 times before. This is the sort of music that could be described as the ultra-down tuned sort of Death Metal that is deeply rooted in the slower/mid-tempo territories of the genre. In fact, Purulency is quite a lot into the whole borrowing-game from the likes of Incantation, Demilich, Abhorrence, Convulse, Undergang and Krypts. It is safe to state that they are one of those cavern-lurking bands that the Death Metal scene of today is flooded with. Yet, Purulency is playing their game convincingly and ‘Transcendent Unveiling Of Dimensions’ is nothing short of a decent and solid piece of Death Metal, but do not expect anything really spectacular either.
