With a demo tape and an EP in 2024 and a split 7” EP with Warslaughter earlier this year, the sonic assault that is Red Right Hand Of Plague now felt the time was right to unleash its first full-length upon us feeble mortals. And while all three of this one-man project’s recordings share a very obvious denominator in the form of feral aggression and blunt savagery, they all sound rather different. With the release of ‘Transgress.Scar.Numen’ Arbitress Moon, the enigmatic person behind the project, offers more than a glimpse of the future of Red Right Hand Of Plague.
The early goings of the band can be enjoyed as a rather perfect balancing act between Black Metal and Grindcore, in the right traditions that bands like Blasphemy started a few moons ago. But with Red Right Hand Of Plague’s contribution to the split 7” EP with Warslaughter the music tilted much more towards Black Metal, leaving the heavy, meaty bits of Grindcore to a minimum. With ‘Transgress.Scar.Numen’ that filing off the Grindcore bits continued, further exposing the project’s crusade into dirty Black Metal.
Not only does ‘Transgress.Scar.Numen’ shows a further diminishing of the Grindcore parts, it especially reveals a considerably sharper sound. Not just in the overall production, but even more so in the tone of the guitars. Besides, the pace throughout the whole album, clocking in just over half an hour, is rather high, not only leaving you feeling you’ve been hit and run over by a freight train, but it also shows another piece of evidence of the project slowly moving towards other musical territories. As a matter of fact, if you replace the heaviness of the guitar tone from a band like Tetragrammacide, you basically have just what Red Right Hand Of Plague is today. Totally menacing and a true challenge for the senses. Extremely intense and not quite suitable for those fainthearted.
