It remains a tricky job, writing a review about bands like Regurgitate. After all, what should you write about such a band? An introduction seems unnecessary, these are the gods of contemporary grindcore, without a doubt. The band once began as a project where only they would record. Meanwhile, the project became an out-of-control joke and has developed into one of the most efficiently working bands in the grindcore scene. The band has done three full European tours in the past year (with Dutch bands Suppository and Bile, among others), and co-headlined the prestigious festivals Obscene Extreme and Fuck The Commerce. And the huge pile of releases the band has under their collective belts present a smashing display of craftsmanship.
This amazing disc was recorded under the supervision of Mieszko Talarczyk known for Nasum and Genocide Superstars at Soundlab Studios and mastered by Scott Hull who is famous for his work with Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Pig Destroyer. And this means razor-sharp and crystal-clear production. Something that makes a CD like this totally come into its own, no detail goes unnoticed and it pounds away deliciously.
And well, about the music I don’t need to spend many words. In fact, I suffice only to say that this CD will end high in my 2003 year list. The band proves exactly in a most convincing way what they can do and what they are capable of. Regurgitate once more demonstrates that they are more than worthy of the name “Gods Of Grind”. The CD kicks off with a cool intro in the song ‘Drowning In Filth’, and that’s basically what happens after: the whole album really leaves you drowning in its sleaze. The speed makes the plaster peel off the walls, the vocals give you just that push for a puking fit and the overwhelming overall sound now really makes your neighbors move out. It continues the trend of the first song and doesn’t let you unwind for one moment, like a blistering undercurrent of disease…
