Just about everything about this first achievement by Schizophrenic Warfare exudes fresh finesse and thoughtful sophistication. Or not. Maybe not… True connoisseurs of the depraved art of the Black/Death Metal genre, straight from the foulest depths, can rejoice once again with this latest entry. When looking at the band’s Bandcamp page it is a bit hard to figure out who is who and even with how many these guys (I suppose) are. At least they seem to go under a few different pseudonyms, one even more hideous than the other. But I think “General Cunt Von Smegma” wins here, just ahead of “Lieutenant Profane Squirter”.

Denmark might not be the first country you’d think of when discussing this sort of music, but if you just think a little more you’ll remember the Scandinavian country had some really good stuff going on. At some point at least. The more recent explosion of Death Metal in the style of Incantation/Autopsy, led by Undergang, would almost make you forget that bands such as Sadogoat/Sadomator, Ogdru Jahad and Vomit Angel laid a solid foundation to build upon when it came to the Black/Death/Grind fusion. And let’s not forget the great Silver Key Records that brought forth an unbeatable stream of sickening stuff. I’m not sure whether that label is still active or has gone under, but unfortunately things have been very quiet around Silver Key Records.

So, very welcome is Schizophrenic Warfare. In just over 10 minutes they present a blend of Black Metal, Death Metal fast-paced Thrash and a tad of Grindcore. No subtly, that’s fore sure. Let’s do the math. Static drums that pummel like they’re being played by a guy who just had his first kit. Buzzsawing guitars. Barking vocals. Dry production. Overall clumsy song writing. Yep. Everything is in place for non-music enthusiasts to enjoy a good old rattle. The aforementioned observations are obviously something that can lead to something great and fun to listen to, like in this case, but it can also come together as a wasted jumble of noise. Noisy it is and its ramshackle character will definitely scare some folks away. Still, if you’re into a bit almost punky sort of stuff that thrives off its primal energy, this is something that you could consider giving a shot. It’s certainly not the best there is, but these 10 minutes are, as mentioned, a fun listen.
