The Lamp Of Thoth – An Oath Sworn On The Ashlar Stone {EP]

Artist: The Lamp Of Thoth
Country: United Kingdom
Label: The Miskatonic Foundation
Formats: 7″ EP
Year: 2009

This is the third release in a short period of time for these British defenders of real doom. Yet, as I can’t get enough of these very catchy tunes of them I only welcome this very limited 7” that came with the ‘Thirty Inches Of Fighting Metal’-pack (The Lamp of Thoth – “Sing As You Slay” 10″, Scarab – “A Soul For A Soul” 10″ and Asomvel – “Full Moon Dog” 10″). So for the 150 lucky owners or the eBay hunters…

This 7” consists out of two live/rehearsal tracks with a rather gritty and noisy sound and a non-existent production. Yet, it gives the feeling of being with them in their rehearsal, some sort of an intimate feel that can only appeal on those who are used to listening to non-polished, $ 100.000 studio, recordings. Basically this 7” is for those who are truly interested in the band and their material – as is clear with the limited amount of copies made.

The limitation of the 7” also makes the package a bit simpler than we are used to from Miskatonic Foundation, only one cardboard inlay and no labels on the 7”. Yet, this is, of course, only a bonus to the aforementioned set of three 10” records. So, for that matter this is only just a great item for collectors and completists. Musically this is actually something rather interesting as well as both songs (“An Oath Sworn On The Ashlar Stone” and “Hand Of Glory”) were never released before.
