Dripping Decay’s ‘Watching You Rot’-demo from 2021 was received well by fans who like their Death Metal dirty and old school, it had a strong resemblance to the tried-and-tested Autopsy formula but had a bit of that Carcass-like Grindcore touch to it. Last summer the band finally followed up that demo with a debut album that lived up to the expectations for the most part, delivering a nice portion of Death Metal that was able to please both fans of the more modern take of the genre as well as fans of the Old School stuff.
Apart for the ‘Trick Or Treat’-cover by classic US-Metal band Halloween, released at Halloween 2023, this new EP is the latest offering of the band operating out of Portland, Oregan, USA. – the cover song also appears as the closing track on this EP. In just over 17 minutes the band again offers another batch of great but non-high flying Death Metal that operates in the exact same musical territories. But, while the previously released demo and debut LP already had much to do with, ‘Ripping Remains’ is really showing the band is here to have a great time. For sure, it is rather well-executed, but it is clear that these guys are enjoying themselves with their most favourite music: they never try to push any boundaries or reinvent any wheels. Instead, they try to bring their craft in the best way possible, cranking out those Punky riffs in an Old School Death Metal fashion. Listen to a song like ‘Emanating Necrosis’, it starts with a nice and catchy Crossover riff, only to erupt into a nice and crunchy headbanging Death Metal brawl.
If you are looking for something great and rather uncomplicated, with loads of gritty and grinding riffs and catchy up-tempo rhythms, but above all, something that reflects all the fun of playing, Dripping Decay’s newest EP is definitely one to check out. Available on both 12” vinyl as well as CD – at least in the USA, the distribution in Europe still seems really poor.
