The metal scene in Chile never fails to amaze, really. There’s some really great band on basically every style of extreme metal. Magnanimus definitely is no exception. Judging from this three song 7”, which is basically their demo put on vinyl.
The riffs and the drums are the first thing that catches the attention, a very dark and murky guitar sound and usually very fast drumming makes t all sound rather ‘American’. Hints of older Morbid Angel, Incantation and a bit of Cryptopsy (first three albums era) can easily be picked out of this stormy sounding death metal. The very dark sound and production of this 7” makes a slight comparison to, let’s say, Asphyx not the strangest but it adds to the overall feeling of this three-tracker. Vocally they belong to the very darkest and deepest guttural old school grunts that can easily compare with the gods of old.
Not the most original for sure but it is, in their way, rather catchy and very well executed. All in all this makes me curious to their full-length which was released three years later in 2006. Hopefully Blood Harvest is willing to put this onto the (un)holy black wax as well.
